DMK government, headed by M Karunanidhi has almost fulfilled the major demands of the farmers, including hike in procurement price of copra and waiver of rs 7,000 crore loan, Chellamuthu told reporters in Coimbatore.
On demands by farmers, particularly coconut growers, for allowing toddy tapping and selling in the State, he said that his party was taking steps to convince the government to lift the ban.
Though there were some incidents of police arresting or preventing tappping and selling toddy, it appeared that the Government has not taken any stringent action against it, he claimed.
The party wanted the government to increase the prices of sugarcane to Rs 2000 per tonne, hike milk prices commensurating the increase in the prices of cow and buffaloes and animal feeds, he said.
Chellamuthu also urged the Government to release funds for the completion of Athikadavu-Avanashi Irrigation scheme.
