A large number of farmers came out on the road and blocked the traffic on the Dharsauna route. Normal traffic was thrown out of the gear due to the protest of the farmers.

Patron of Kisan Jagran Manch Satish Chaubey alleged that the standing crop of the farmers was being destroyed due to lack of water for irrigation in several villages. “ The standing crop of scores of villages has been badly affected due to lack of water in the canals in this area”, he said and added that acute shortage of water in Danganj-Rajwaha and Cholapur-Rajwaha canal (associated with irrigation sector of Jaunpur district) was adding to the misery of the local farmers.

Chaubey said that officials of the irrigation department were not paying attention to the problems of farmers who had urged the department to ensure flow of water in these canals.

“The farmers had taken loans to sow their crops after but their standing crop is now being destroyed due to inadequate irrigation facilities”, he said and added that if the irrigation department did not pay attention to the demand of the farmers, they would intensify their agitation.

Coordinator of Jagran Manch Tribhuvan Singh ‘Dada’said that apart from inadequate irrigation facility, erratic power supply was compounding the woes of the farmers, who were unable to irrigate their fields with tubewells due to erratic power supply in the villages.

District Panchayat member Dilip Chaubey, Ramesh Singh and Kamla Rajbhar also addresed the farmers and strongly criticised the apathetic attitude of the irrigation department.
