The National Conference patron and union minister for new and renewable energy Farooq Abdullah has supported the central government on sharing information with the United Kingdom over Operation Bluestar in 1984.

The National Conference patron and union minister for new and renewable energy Farooq Abdullah has supported the central government on sharing information with the United Kingdom over Operation Bluestar in 1984.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of inauguration of Women Science Congress at Jammu University, Abdullah said, "This is a normal practice. Countries share information with each other. Nations work like that, cooperating with each other."

"We are sharing and giving information about terrorists with and to other countries, including US and UK," said Abdullah.

On Tuesday, it was revealed that the former prime minister, Indira Gandhi, wrote to her British counterpart Margaret Thatcher after Operation Bluestar, in an attempt to justify her decision to send army to flush out militants from the Golden Temple.

Presenting a report before the British Parliament, UK foreign secretary William Hague said the British military's role was "limited" and "purely advisory".

Hague said the UK played no role in the actual operation that took place at the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
