Farooq does not rule out becoming CM
Former JK chief minister Farooq Abdullah, does not rule out the possibility of him assuming the post again.
Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah, who retired from active politics two years back, does not rule out the possibility of him assuming the post again.
Claiming that the PDP-led coalition government would soon fall, Abdullah said he was confident that the National Conference would be voted back to power.
The four parties in the ruling PDP-led coalition are at loggerheads, the Mufti Sayeed led government is crumbling and soon there would be mid-term polls in which NC would emerge victorious, he claimed.
Asked if he was in the race for the chief minister's post, Abdullah, who is campaigning for the party here, said "it is too soon to say".
He said NC is a democratic party and that the procedure would be followed as and when the situation to decide on the chief minister arose.
However, he said Mohammad Shafi Uri could also lead the government.
Asked how soon would NC form the new government, he said "very soon" but added "if a general tells you when he is going to attack, he is a stupid general".
Abdullah had announced retirement from active politics just ahead of the assembly polls in 2002 handing over the reins of the party to son Omar to pave the way for him to take over as the next chief minister but the party faced a crushing defeat which led to bickering within the NC.
