However, as a part of the Kala Kumbh, the fashion show will be organised on Women's College campus on December 22 for the first time.

With the students of AU's Centre of Fashion Design and Technology working day and night to make the event a big success, the visitors and guests can sure look forward to a treat never seen before on the campus.

"For the first time and as per our plan to give the Kala Kumbh a bigger stage, we have decided to host a programme of around one-and-a-half-hour at the Women's College.

The programme will include a fashion show, a small skit on 'Suno Kahani Fashion Ki', an exhibition of clothes prepared by our students besides a bhajan and a 'pakhawaj' demo," said Prof GK Rai, a member of the organising committee of Kala Kumbh and the director of AU's Institute of Professional Studies under which the Centre of Fashion Design and Technology functions.

About the events, Prof Rai said: "Organising events like a fashion show helps students grasp the technicalities involved in the field of fashion designing and technology as also to learn the way to work as a team under deadline pressure and come up with a show to be critically analysed by the public."

"Such events help develop self-confidence of students. Besides, fashion is a serious subject and its professional course not only provides the ever growing fashion industry with trained manpower but also helps youngsters get good jobs," he added.

Prof Rai said that the events were being treated as an occasion to galvanise the whole centre as a dynamic performing unit and involving faculty, employees, students and outside professionals to come up with an impressive show.

As per the schedule, Women's College will host a skit 'Suno kahani fashion ki' by which a story of a village girl, who is attracted to the world of fashion by watching TV, comes to Allahabad University despite some hesitation and resistance by her family, is being conveyed.

The skit highlights how she pursues a two-year diploma at the AU Centre of Fashion Design and Technology which finally helps her fulfill her dream and emerge as a budding fashion designer.

With background song by Yash Malviya, direction by Anil Ranjan Bhowmick and dramatisation by Mitali, this is one skit having the potential to become the talk of the campus in the days to come.

The skit will be followed by a nine-round fashion show that will witness ramp walks by the students showcasing designer clothes painstakingly prepared by the students themselves.

Being choreographed by Ashish Srivastava, it will feature 57 girl students trying to impress guests with their poise and style as much as with the cuts and lines of their designer clothes.
