The fact was disclosed before the kin of the deceased on Monday and they staged a sit-in outside the local police station, demanding action against the station officer (SO) and other erring policemen.

SSP Dr GK Goswami later placed a sub-inspector (S-I) Rajendra Tiwari and a constable Koderam Yadav under suspension.

The incident came to light when Majid Ali of Palia village reached Kakori police station at noon. Ali gave an application to the policemen stating that his brother Mehndi Hasan had not returned home since May 30. Ali spotted the photograph of his brother pasted on the wall of the police station.

On inquiring he got to know that the person had died in a road mishap and that his brother’s body was consigned to flames the very next day. This infuriated Ali the villagers gheraoed the police station.
