In feng shui terms, your front door, your bedroom and the position of your kitchen are the three most important considerations. After all, we spend about one-third of our lives in our bedrooms, and special attention is required for the position and the direction in which we sleep. Some find one direction comfortable while others may find the same uncomfortable. It has been established that the direction of the earth’s magnetic field has an effect on the quality of our sleep.
Try to sleep with your head in the direction of the head of the bed. The bed direction can affect your prosperity, career, relationship, marriage and luck.
Ideal bedroom location
The master bedroom should be one of the largest rooms in the house. The best location is in the south-west. This direction receives the least light, and is therefore suitable for a bedroom. The south-west quarter of the house is associated with the element Earth. As Earth is the most stable element, being both inert and inactive, it provides the most peaceful condition, hence apt for sleep. If you cannot have a room in south-west, then either the west, south or north of the house should be preferred. Try to avoid the south-east or north-west.
If you live in a one room apartment, then try to organise the space so that the sleeping area is in the south-west corner. If your house has more than one floor, then the bedroom should be on the first floor. A higher floor gives a sense of protection from the outside world. Avoid living at the ground level or your sleep may be disturbed.
The foot of your bed should not be facing the door, nor should your bed be parallel to the doorway.
Do not position the bed directly between the door and a window or in a straight line as the resultant rush of a Ch’i draft will not be conducive to good night’s rest.
Make sure you have adequate support behind the bed in the form of a headboard placed firmly against a wall.
Don’t place the headboard of the bed against a wall backed by a toilet or sink. If this is unavoidable, place a mirror above or opposite the toilet or sink in the bathroom and opposite to the common wall in the bedroom.
Do not put water features in the bedroom as they disturb sleep and may fetch you bad luck.
If you must have a workspace in your bedroom, just be sure to cover the work area at night. Also cover your computer.
Try not to sleep directly under the bathroom on a floor above you, The toilet sends negative Ch’i down causing unhealthiness in relationships.
Avoid placing a dressing table opposite the door as it leads to bad temper.
Romance should be the keynote for the master bedroom. This is the room of love - goddess Venus and it should reflect the more amorous side to your nature.
