JD(U) President and acting convenor of NDA, Sharad Yadav, who announced the names of his party's 25 candidates, said Fernandes was denied the ticket from Muzzafarpur due to his poor health.

"There is no other reason why he would be denied a ticket," Yadav said. Former union minister Jai Narayan Nishad, who quit RJD last week, will contest from this seat.

Former union minister of state for External Affairs, Digvijay Singh has also been denied the ticket from Banka constituency.

"He is not being given the ticket as his constituency profile has changed after delimitation. Moreover, he is also a member of the Rajya Sabha," Yadav said. Damodar Rawat will be the JD(U) candidate from this constituency.

Both Fernandes and Singh have already announced their plans to contest from Muzaffarpur and Banka constituencies respectively.
