Finance minister P Chidamabaram on Friday suggested that the Congress field candidates below 35 years of age in half of the 543 Lok Sabha seats for which elections are due in April-May.
Speaking at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) meeting in Delhi, Chidambaram said: "I have a radical idea. I believe and I appeal to all of you to reflect on that. I believe that at least in one half of parliament seats, the Congress party must field candidates below the age of 35 years."
He said a young and empowered India should be the slogan for the upcoming polls.
