She exhorted the women to raise their voice against government policies which she termed as anti-people and anti-labour.

Ali was speaking at a massive women’s rally at Katchery Club ground. Thousands of women, waving banners and placards, arrived here in a processions from various parts of the division. They assembled at Mohiuddinpur and marched towards Katchery Club ground. Ali accused the government of making false promises to women and delaying the women’s reservation Bill in Parliament.

She said the government had cut down the budget allocation for education, health and other social securities, which would adversely affect the interests of the labourers and the poor section of the society.

Speaking as the chief guest on this occasion, district magistrate Dr Hariom exhorted the women to come forward for their genuine rights and said women should not remain confined to their homes only. He also threw light on various government schemes launched for the uplift of women.

Bishop Dominic Kokkat, Yashodhra Das and many others also expressed their views at the rally.

They said women must play a vital and constructive role in panchayats to transform a village into a developed unit. They handed over a memorandum to the district magistrate on the occasion.
