As the two major fire incidents at Bibipur village and Kanghi Mohal claimed more than a dozen lives, the fire services personnel are on a high alert to avoid any tragedy during the festival season. They are also spreading awareness among the people about fire safety measures.

Talking to HT, Chief Fire Officer DP Shukla said a fire safety plan had been chalked out to meet any emergency. The strategy was adopted after officers carried out on the spot survey in their respective areas over the past few days.

The exercise was undertaken to identify fire-fighting equipment necessary to tackle any emergency in the congested areas of the city.

The survey would help to reduce damage caused in the event of a fire breaking out, Shukla added.

The communication systems placed at fire stations have been upgraded, he added. Shukla said barring emergency restriction had been imposed on taking leave so that maximum manpower was available during Diwali.

Shukla said all station officers had been instructed to ensure crackers shops were allowed only on open grounds and that they followed regulations of the district administration.
