Five from same family die in Hampi accident

Five persons from the same family from Bellary died in the major train mishap in Andhra Pradesh when Hampi Express collided with a goods train in Penukonda on Tuesday morning.

Five persons from the same family from Bellary died in the major train mishap in Andhra Pradesh when Hampi Express collided with a goods train in Penukonda on Tuesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Rudranaik, Muttanna, Sarojini Bai, Lakshmidevi, Pavanidevi, all belong to Kenchanagudda village of Siraguppa taluk in Bellary district.

According to reports, atleast 23 people were killed in the accident and many are injured. Some of the injured are being shifted to hospitals in Karnataka border. In the meantime, Railway department in Karnataka has opened a helpline for the queries by the relatives of the passengers in the Hampi Express, which met the accident.

Many passengers and deceased are from Karnataka border distircts mainly from Koppal, Bellary, Bagalokot districts, Railway police said. Varthur Prakash, minister from Karnataka has reached the spot and arranging government facilities to bring the bodies of the deceased, who belong to the state. He is also arranging medical facilities to the injured persons.

Compensation:
In the meantime, Karnataka chief minster DV Sadananda Gowda has announced Rs 1 lakh compensation to each deceased’s family and Rs 25,000 each to the injured.

Kustagi MLA, Amaregowda Baiyapura, who was travelling in the same train and escaped narrowly from the incident, told media that mainly the passengers in the general compartments are affected in the incident and most of them are poor labourers from the border districts of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
