The latest victim was found dead on Dec 30 in a well. The mother, Rani Thakur, has been jailed.

Bodies of three newborn have been found in the campus of the Ranchi Institute of Medical Science. Police suspect the mother threw one of the babies from the third floor of the hospital because it was her fourth girl child.

On January 14, the body of a baby girl was found near Harmu river. In Jharkhand the female-male ratio is 942:1,000. There are four districts where the ratio is poorer: just over 800 to 1,000.
