Incessant rains since a fortnight threw life out of gear in the district, flooding many areas following an increase in the water levels of river Godavari, they said.

The water level in river Godavari has started receding after rains stopped last evening, sources said today.

All the rivers including Godavari were flooded due to heavy rains forcing irrigation department to release water from Gangapur, Darna, Girna and Alandi dams in the last few days.

Earlier, Godavari was flowing over the danger mark triggering panic among over 400 families living on its banks, who were later shifted to safer places by the district administration, sources added.

Kapad Bazar, Balaji Kot, Dahipul and other areas near riverside were flooded, sources said adding except for Victoria, Kannamwar bridges all the bridges were submerged affecting vehicular traffic in these localities.

Meanwhile, four to five persons were washed away at different places in the district following rains, police sources said adding operations to trace them are on.
