For six hours everyday, heavy vehicles will be banned from entering the national highway-8, where miles-long jams are now common.

Long-route trucks entering Gurgaon from other states will not be allowed on the road for three hours in the morning and for an equal duration in the evening.

In the morning, trucks cannot enter the highway from 8 am to 11 am, and in the evening from 5 pm to 8 pm. "Now heavy-duty trucks such as long trailers ferrying car and motorcycles are causing miles-long jams," said Gurgaon range IGP Mohinder Lal.

Among other measures aimed at easing traffic flow on the highway are increasing strength of traffic policemen from 50 to 200 and impounding autorickshaws not registered in Gurgaon. These diesel-run autorickshaws were ordered out of Delhi a couple of years back and are now plying in Gurgaon.
