Foreigner molested in Mumbai

An American cuts short her India visit after being molested by a teenager, reports Debasish Panigrahi.

A 25-year-old American tourist cut short her visit to India and flew back to the US after she was molested in Colaba, south Mumbai, by a teenager on January 3, DCP (Zone 1) Brijesh Kumar Singh said. The alleged molester, Abu Sheikh, was arrested on Thursday night.

Also on Thursday, the police detained five men for allegedly molesting a woman and tearing her clothes at the Gateway of India on New Year’s Eve. The girl and her male companion—shot by a Mid-Day photographer in the centre of a crowd of 60-70 people—are yet to be traced, Singh said. The families of those picked up said they were being unfairly targeted.
