Former BCCI president Ranbir Singh Mahendra on Saturday said coach Greg Chappell should not be blamed for the team's recent poor performances as the onus lay on the players to deliver out in the middle.

Talking to media persons in Ambala, he said the criticism against Chappell, who was appointed during his tenure as BCCI chief, was mostly unwarranted.

Mahendra said he had formed a review committee comprising Sunil Gavaskar, S Venkataraghvan, Ravi Shastri, Jagmohan Dalmiya and S K Nayar, to review the performance of the team and the coach after every three months but as soon as Sharad Pawar took over, it was dismantled.

When asked whether it was right for Chappell to remark on parliamentarians, he said the Aussie should confine himself to cricket activities for which he was appointed.
