City based NGO Janhit Manch had filed a PIL in the High Court in April contending that despite drowning deaths off beaches in Mumbai and elsewhere in the state, the government had no safety measures such as life guards, etc in place.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation today told the court that it already has nine life guards on beaches in the city and it plans to recruit eleven more.
The petitioners had demanded that the state have safety norms for beaches, accordingly the High Court directed the government to frame such norms in three weeks and place them before the court.
