Fresh batch of pilgrims leaves for Amarnath

A fresh batch of 2,989 Amarnath pilgrims on Monday left from Jammu to Pahalgam base camp for their journey.

A fresh batch of 2,989 Amarnath pilgrims on Monday left from Jammu to Pahalgam base camp for their onward journey to the holy cave shrine.

According to police sources, the batch comprising 1170 men, 208 women, 114 children and 197 priests, departed in a fleet of 124 vehicles including 57 buses and 67 light motor vehicles at around 5.20 am on Monday.

The cavalcade of vehicles was also escorted by security forces, sources said. Tight security arrangements have also been made at these centres for the safety of pilgrims, they added.
