Check price rise
Self-sufficiency in the production of foodstuffs has been a benchmark of achievement since Independence (Perishables, the thought, June 26). Now there are reports that India is to import wheat and sugar to tide over existing shortages. What a testimony to the progress made over 58 years. Let’s stop playing politics and help the common people, particularly those living below poverty line.

Repent
While posing for photographs and cutting a birthday cake, V.P. Singh should have thought of young persons like Rajiv Goswami. Politicians like V.P. Singh and Arjun Singh should celebrate their birthdays by observing two minutes’ silence as a mark of repentance for their deeds.
