THE GIRL who could not become Miss Lucknow has made it to the finals of Miss India.

“This is where I wanted to be since my childhood,” beamed Romil Srivastava on television while girls in Jaunpur performed puja to wish her success. As the finals began, her parents too, started praying in Mumbai.

Romil Srivastava, resident of Mahanagar, Lucknow, studied at Loreto Convent and failed to be noticed in her first attempt in the Miss Lucknow contest.

However, in her second attempt, in 2001, she was runners-up in the Miss Lucknow contest.

“She’s done several shows with us but couldn’t win the crown. However, she never got dejected,” said Aruna Saxena, Chairperson, Fantasies—a youth organization.

“She is a very bubbly, friendly and ambitions girl,” said Basant Rai. Rai has been working with Romil as her dress designer for the past several years. She also anchored ‘Aao Jhumme Naache Gaaye’ on ETV.

She has also done shows for some top brands, designers and organizations and photoshoots for some magazines and brands.

Romil’s father, an Income Tax officer, and her mom, were with Romil in Mumbai during the contest. In Lucknow, her aunt, Usha Sinha said, “Since childhood she wanted to go for the Miss India contest. Today, she has fulfilled that.”
