Dr Gautam Kumar Bera of Anthropological Survey of India was the special guest while HoD Prof US Sahai was the convenor of the programme.

Prof Sahai in his welcome address said the department was running short of facilities and infrastructure. “Lack of faculty is another problem being faced by the department and we feel the department is getting neglected,” he said.

Prof ARN Srivastava spoke about the tradition of fieldwork custom in the department. In fieldwork, anthropologists go to a particular area and reside for some period with the inhabitants to know them.

Dr Gautam asked the department to make their presence felt by organising seminars and other academically programmes.

Dr Gautam proposed to assist in organising a national seminar if the department came forward with a proposal. Presentations by UG and PG students especially the Power Point presentation by Suruchi Tiwari and Neeraj Thakur about their field work at Ranchi, Jharkhand of the Munda tribe still living in primitive conditions was greatly appreciated.

The female members of the tribe don men’s attire for hunting (for one day) during the Jeni Shikar festival of the tribe.

Prof Harshe, impressed by the efforts of the department, praised the academic activities of the department under HoD Prof Sahai. Harshe assured of various facilities like books, computers and Internet connection for the department.

Prof Harshe also interacted with the students on the occasion.
