Functions mark World Water Day
IN A bid to draw world?s attention towards the plight of holy river Ganga and poor state of water reservoirs, several functions were organised at different places in Varanasi on Wednesday to mark the World Water Day. A seven-km long human chain was formed at the bank of river Ganga from Assi Ghat to Adikeshav Ghat in Varanasi today. The human chain was formed under the joint auspices of Sankat Mochan Foundation and an Australia-based organisation ?Oz Green?.
IN A bid to draw world’s attention towards the plight of holy river Ganga and poor state of water reservoirs, several functions were organised at different places in Varanasi on Wednesday to mark the World Water Day.
A seven-km long human chain was formed at the bank of river Ganga from Assi Ghat to Adikeshav Ghat in Varanasi today. The human chain was formed under the joint auspices of Sankat Mochan Foundation and an Australia-based organisation ‘Oz Green’.
A large number of school kids from 25-30 schools and other prominent dignitaries participated in ‘Human Chain’. All the participants renewed their commitments to clean Ganga.
Later, a meeting was also organised at the Rajinder Prasad Ghat. Chief of Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee, Salman Khurshid was chief guest at the function.
He said that UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi has an attraction for Indian culture.
“Congress party is committed to clean the river Ganga from the pollution,” he said and added that Ganga not only belongs to Hindu community but it is the identity of entire India.
“We will have to preserve and protect the Indian culture by ensuring cleanliness of the Ganga,” he said. Congress was taking seriously the project of Prof Veer Bhadra Mishra about cleanliness of Ganga, he added.
Senior Congress leaders, Rajesh Pati Tripathi, Manishankar Pandey and chief priest of Sankat Mochan Prof Veer Bhadra Mishra also expressed their grave concern over rising pollution in Ganga.
