Gilchrist, standing in as skipper for the injured Ricky Ponting, took advantage of the eight-day break between the second and third Tests to escape the heat and dust of India.
The Australian squad, which has played two back-to-back Tests in India, disbanded on Monday to rest and recuperate before two more Tests at Nagpur from October 26-30 and Mumbai from November 3-7.
While Gilchrist heads to Singapore, other players will visit the popular beaches of Goa or stay in Mumbai before heading to Nagpur.
Gilchrist, who has been busy as captain, wicket-keeper and batsman, said he was looking forward to the rest.
And he rejected criticism about his work behind the stumps after dropping three catches in the drawn second Test here, two of them off leg-spinner Shane Warne.
