Gaurav Awasthi (23) and Garima (25) were the residents of Girija Nagar. Their father Harishankar Awasthi is working as an executive in a private firm.
Sources said on Saturday night when Gaurav saw that his parents had gone to sleep, he bolted his room from outside and started moving towards the railway line. As his sister Garima saw him leaving the house, she started following him. Some eyewitnesses claimed that when Gaurav jumped before a train, Garima, in a bid to save him, caught hold of him and, while doing so, she came under the wheels of the train.
In the morning when Harishankar and his wife found that the rooms of their children was locked from outside, they knocked on the door several times. But there was no reply.
Harishankar then called up his neighbour on the mobile. When the door was opened, they could not find their children inside the room. When they learnt that the bodies of a boy and a girl were lying on the railway track, Harishanker and his wife rushed to the spot.
While the kin of the deceased refused to make any comments, some locales claimed that while Garima was doing a beautician’s course, Gaurav was running coaching classes in the same area.
They said that Gaurav was having an affair with a girl who belonged to lower caste. His parents did not allow him to marry her and told him to break all relations with her. However, Gaurav stuck to his guns. As he lost all hopes to marry the girl, he decided to commit suicide. But Garima lost her life in a bid to save her brother.
