Sharma termed the move by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government as "vindictive and politically motivated".
In a statement issued here, Sharma said Goswami was the first IAS officer from the Jammu to have reached the important post of the country's home secretary.

"Very few officers from Jammu are holding important positions at the Centre and Goswami's removal reflects the seriousness of the BJP government in giving Jammu its due rights," Sharma added.

"BJP got 25 seats in Jammu region in the assembly elections, but this is how Modi has rewarded the people."

The Congress leader also alleged that attempts are being made to "saffronise" the bureaucracy.

"If senior officers like Goswami are being targeted to fulfill the inflated ego of one political master, how will the administration work fearlessly for delivery," Sharma said.
