Another important ground in the cricketing history of India, Green Park in Kanpur, first held a Test match in 1952 when England completed a crushing eight wicket win over India in three days.

In 1959-60, India upset the formbook by beating Australia by 199 runs, and Jasu Patel had figures of nine for 69 and five for 55. Long after this spectators still associate the ground with the Patel innings.

The ground also saw Mohammad Azharuddin complete his world record of scoring three consecutive centuries in his first three Tests. In 1986-87, Kanpur lived up to its reputation as a batting paradise with the Test against Sri Lanka producing 1096 runs for the loss of only 17 wickets. This included India's all time record total of 676 for 7.

But with so many Tests played here ending in draws due to its featherbed wicket, one-day cricket is often more suitable in Kanpur.

Nineteen matches have been played here of which India has won only four with the visitors winning on three occasions and 12 Tests have been drawn.

The highest individual innings (250) was scored by West Indian SFA Bacchus against India in 1978-1979 while India's JM Patel holds the best Bowling figures in an innings (9/69) against Australia in 1959-1960.
