Petty arguments among the praticipating groups in Ganesh immersion are said to have lead to the clashes.

The angry mob had set several shops and motorcycles on fire in the area and indulged in stone pelting at each other.

The police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. The police did not confirm if there were any casualties in the incident.

The area had witnessed similar clashes of stone pelting and several two-wheelers were set on fire late last night when the immersion procession of Ganesh idol was passing from there.

Despite this incident, the immersion procession of Ganesh idols continued to take place in 22 lakhs located in and around the city without any disturbances.

Talking to PTI here today, the city Police Commisioner Rakesh Asthana said that the police had to resort to firing to disperse two groups of people indulging stone pelting and setting vehicles on fire.
