The police on Friday registered a cheating case against a couple in Gurgaon who had issued a fake cheque to their landlord against rent.

Sumit Kapur, a resident of Vikas Puri, had rented out his house at Rosewood City in Sector 49 to the couple, Sunny and Nisha, in June 2011.

He told the police that the couple gave him two cheques of Rs 20,000 each — one against security deposit and the other advance rent.

But he later found out that the cheques bore fake account numbers.
