WITH THE death of Brigadier Meraj Ashraf and Lt. Col. Kamal Ahmed the death count of pilgrims from Lucknow in the Mina stampede rose to five. All the five persons are from the same family.
Relatives of those killed and injured have complained about the lack of official information from the administration.
Minister of Haj Affairs Yakub Qureshi, who is in Mecca with Hajis, was not aware about the death of two more pilgrims from the city till Saturday morning.
He was not able to provide any help to the family members of the deceased.
Family members of Brigadier Ashraf had contacted Haji Yakub Qureshi for information about Brigadier Ashraf’s well-being in Mecca. Qureshi had informed them that the Brigadier was in good health. When Qureshi gave this info the Brigadier was already dead.
Relatives of Ashraf then contacted Imran Kidwai, a relative of senior Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai, who was in Mecca. Imran told them that Brigadier Ashraf had passed away.
Imran said the Brigadier had suffered brain haemorrhage after identifying the bodies of his wife and sister.
