Arti Sharma is popularly known as ‘Angela’ on the modelling circuit but she prefers her original name, as it’s the one that gave her the Gladrags Megal Model title.

She never thought she would become a top model as she was afraid of wearing bikinis. “When I was in my first year in college my friends persuaded me to model as a hobby.”

Initially, she was not very comfortable what with skimpy outfits being a big ‘No’ for her. “Four years back, when I started, Delhi (specially my circle) was not so forward. Sporting a swimwear in shows was a big taboo but once I broke that shell, it has been smooth sailing. This is a different world and if you want to become a model you have to be bolder as the profession demands it.” She was selected to walk the ramp at the Fashion Week in Delhi but preferred to go for Gladrags, which made her the first girl from the Capital to win the title.

Arti now eyes the ‘The Global Queen’ pageant which will be held in Germany in June. “Lara Dutta, after winning the Gladrags title, went on to win the ‘Global Queen’ title. I want to win it again for India and Lara’s success is an inspiration for me. I am hoping for the best and am working hard for the big show.”

What about acting? “No! It’s not my field of interest, nor do I know acting. But, if I get a very good opportunity I can consider it. For that, I will need to take formal training.”

She likes fixing goals, achieving them and then setting new targets. “First, it was to become a model, then go for Gladrags, now it’s the mega contest in Germany and then I will come back and shift to Mumbai.”

On returning she has an agenda. “Clicking is my hobby and now I want to learn fashion photography. My inspiration is Atul Kasbekar and my cousin Rahul Dutta who is a very renowned fashion photograher. Rahul shot my portfolio,” says the dusky, tall lass.

Her favourites are Ujjawalla Raut and Sushmita Sen. She has rocked the small screen in the remix number on Venus ‘Hare hare hare, hum to dil pe hare’ and has lately became the brand ambassador of an electronic giant.

Meanwhile, HT We also caught the following quotes from Miss India (top 10) Finalist-2004 Himani Thapa, about her sex appeal: “Oh! It’s from top-to-bottom.

It’s just the way I carry myself.” She is concentrating only on the ramp shows and has no plans to shift her focus to the small or big screen. “Acting is not my cup of tea. Last year I performed in the Fashion Week.” Was it destiny that prevented her from a title in the Miss India contest? “I believe in destiny but strongly believe that it’s the person who makes his/her destiny. Now, I have big plans to be in Milan, lets see!” says Himani who belongs to Dehradun but has now shifted to New Delhi.
