Health worker raped by sarpanch's brother in Barwani

A 27-year-old health worker was allegedly raped by the brother of the sarpanch at Chitrai village in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh. The police have booked him for rape and for threatening the victim.

A 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped by brother of the sarpanch at Chitrai village in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred on Wednesday night at Chitrai village, about 95-kilometre south of district headquarters.

The accused has been identified as Susa Barela (24), younger brother of Chitrai village sarpanch. The victim is working as ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) worker at Achhariyapani in the district, said police.

The woman had gone to her parents' village to attend a marriage in the family. The victim told police that on on Wednesday night, the accused--Barela caught her and raped her. He allegedly threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the incident to anyone.

But she mustered courage and approached the police. Acting on her complaint, the police have registered a case of rape against the accused. The Sendhwa police are conducting investigation in this case.
