Heavy rains claim 10 more lives in UP
Heavy rains in different parts of Uttar Pradesh have claimed 10 more lives increasing the toll in the state to 93. More lives were lost in drowning and house collapse in Bahraich, Sant Kabirnagar and Barabanki districts since Wednesday.
Heavy downpour as well as release of water in Ghaghra and Saryu rivers from a barrage in Nepal has inundated several villages in Bahraich with some being marooned, officials said.
Large tracts of agriculture land have also been devastated, officials said. While submerging led to a rise in cases of house collapse in the the district. People are taking shelter on embankments in the area.
The administration is facing a tough time dealing with the disaster with locals starting a protest against alleged administrative apathy.
Senior officials on Wednesday somehow managed to pacify about 22 youths in Bondi village from taking a plunge in the river in protest.
Police and PAC personnel have been deployed in the area surrounding the river, as precautionary measure.
