Farmers have formed the Khet Bachao Kisan Sangharsh Samiti to oppose the government plan and press for their demands.

Talking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Heera Lal Yadav, Kunwar Suresh Singh and Vijay Kumar of Sangharsh Samiti said farmers would never allow the government to construct Hi-Tech City on agricultural land. “We will save our land even at the cost of our lives. We will not allow the administration to acquire our agricultural land,” added Heera Lal Yadav.

He said farmers had constituted village- level committees for an agitation.
He alleged the government wanted to oblige certain multinational companies by inviting them to construct the hi-tech city and that was why no representative of the government met farmers.

Samajwadi Janata Party State general secretary Kunwar Suresh Singh said Sangharsh Samiti office-bearers informed Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav farmers would never give their cultivable land for construction of the Hi-Tech City.

Vijay Kumar said the farmers would become unemployed after acquisition of their land. He urged Mulayam Singh Yadav to drop the proposal. He said public meetings would be organised at different villages of Mohansarai area to chalk out the future course of action.

Sangharsh Samiti office-bearers claimed various other organisations, such as the Varanasi Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti and Kisan Sabha have extended their support to the campaign.
