High on events: Watch out for Oct 28

One day that everybody in the city must have surely blocked in their calenders is October 28. With about ten events happening in the city on a single day, the day has a lot in store for people. From the inauguration of the first ever Formula One Indian Grad Prix, American heavy metal band Metallica’s debut concert to cultural, dance, music and art events - the day is jam-packed with a lot of interesting stuff for Delhiites to keep them busy throughout the day. Here’s a look at eight events on October 28, so that you can plan your day!

F1 grand prix
The first ever Formula One Indian Grand Prix will kick off in the Capital on October 28. The year’s most sought after event will take place at the newly constructed Buddh Circuit in Greater Noida. The three day event will see Formula One drivers, such as Lewis Hamilton, visit India and take part in the renowned championship. With the tickets almost sold out, the event has generated excitement among the people of the city. Many city-based restaurants and clubs have also planned special menus and offers for the championship with live screenings as well.

* Where: Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida

Duet dance festival
Here’s a visual treat for people who are interested in classical dance and music. Scheduled to happen over a period of two days, this festival will see performances by internationally renowned Kathak and Bharatnatyam artists such as Shovana Narayan, Vidya Gauri, Geeta Chandran, Sharanya Chandran, Punita Sharma and many others. The festival is being organised by the Rag Virag Educational and Cultural Society, and will see dance performances that will be based on a number of themes.

Metallica live at F1 rocks
Scheduled to happen in Gurgaon, the debut performance by Metallica in the country is making the heavy metal music fans in the city crazy with excitement. With the tickets being sold out weeks ago, and the band’s merchandise selling like hot cakes, the city is already geared up for the mega concert. Many city-based rock bands are planning pre and post concert tributes to the band by playing their covers. The concert will be opened by Biffy Clyro - a Scotland-based band, along with a Delhi band that will be selected after the results of the contest for the opening act are declared. The entire week will see bands and musicians all around the city playing Metallica’s songs. The concert is expected to witness huge crowds, so try to be on the venue before time.

A day for some festivities too
Held a day after Diwali each year, Bhai Dooj is celebrated by brothers and sisters across the country. On this day, sisters apply vermillion teeka on their brother’s foreheads and in return get gifts. It’s a day full of sweets and delicacies. Check out the

Motor match
It is a motor show where some of India’s best rock bands will perform. To take this excitement to a new level, major rock bands like Them Clones, Advaita, and Faridkot will provide the ultimate rock experience while the consumers test, select and buy their dream car. Other upcoming bands slated to perform at the event include: Indigo Children, Mob Marley, and Rishi inc. While Indian F1 driver Karun Chandhok will be the face of the event, an ex-F1 driver, Sigfried Stohr, and his team of professionals from Italy, will be flown in especially to supervise test drives for participants of the event.

Art exhibit
This show of solo paintings, by Nira Davar, project the daily life of the artist. The exhibition reflects Davar’s concern with colour, form and texture, using their interplay to create a luminous three-dimensional world in a two dimensional space. It is a world that is both outside and inside the artist, providing her an ongoing concern for her paintings, while at the same time giving the viewer different points of reference to relate to each work as a unique journey.

Ubuntu - the concert
India’s leading classical singer, Sumitra Guha, and double Grammy winning producer, Robin Hogarth, will bring together Indian and South African music in a concert titled - Nurture Sant Kabir’s Values to Develop Ahimsa. Hogarth is presently in the city to record an album with Guha as part of the Gondwana Dawn project. The concert will also feature eight South African teenage musicians, who have also recorded for the album. Music aficionados in the city can expect to hear a fusion of gospel and Indian classical music with some Zulu dance steps.
