Hillary unlikely to win in presidential race: Poll
Most people in her adopted state think it is unlikely she could win the 2008 presidential race.
Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton is in strong shape for re-election in New York this year, but voters think she might lose the presidential elections.
Most people in her adopted state think it is unlikely the former first lady could win the 2008 presidential race, a state-wide poll reported.
And, 51 per cent of the voters surveyed told Marist College's Institute for Public Opinion that Clinton, "because of who she is," would be treated more harshly than other candidates in the 2008 presidential campaign.
Only 31 per cent said she would be treated the same as other candidates, the poll reported on Monday.
"She comes with controversy," said Marist pollster Lee Miringoff.
Last week, a national poll found 51 per cent of the respondents said they definitely would not vote for her in a presidential election.
While almost half of those polled indicated some support for a presidential run by Clinton, only 16 per cent said they would definitely vote for her.
Clinton, who is seeking a second, six-year term in the US Senate this year, has not said if she will seek the Democratic Party nomination for president in 2008.
Forty-nine per cent of New York voters in the Marist poll said Clinton should not run for president, while 41 per cent said she should.
While 59 per cent said they expect Clinton to run for president, 62 per cent said it is unlikely she could win.
Conversely, 53 per cent said Republican Rudolph Giuliani, the former New York City mayor, should run for president in 2008, while 41 per cent said he should not do so.
