This is how the Met department reacted after the showers left many city areas waterlogged and people jumping out in the rain to beat the heat.

The strong winds preceding the showers blew away many hoardings, fell many trees, snapped power lines. But, the MET department said it was not yet pre-monsoon shower. It is 48-hour away!

In Gomti Nagar 12 hoardings were blown away while at Gandhi Setu three hung loose. While there were no stats available about the numbers of hoardings damaged in rest of the city.

Several people slipped and a number of two-wheelers had minor to dangerous skids on the road passing by from Golf Club to Jiamau. The piles of mud which is clay soil trickled on to road and made the road slippery. Even some four-wheelers were seen skidding.

Jawahar Nagar, Akbari Gate, Chaupatia, Napier road, Balaganj, Gadhi Peer Khan, road under the Maviya overbridge, Gomti Nagar areas and some parts of Aliganj had minor to severe water logging.

When it came to VIP areas Lucknow Municipal Corporation(LMC) immediately deployed four pumps each at Daliganj and Kalidas Marg. LMC officers without mentioning the names of some ministers’ residences at Kalidas Marg said that they had to pump out water from the campuses of their residence.

Municipal Commissioner Ram Bodh Maurya visited Chowk, Nishatganj, Dalibagh and Kalidas Marg areas. He said that polythene bags are becoming a major problem causing waterlogging in the area as they are choking side-drains and nullahs. He appealed the people to be responsible and stop throwing polythene on the streets and drains.

The LMC control room received 22 complaints from people from different parts of the city about waterlogging and sludge puddles getting formed in their areas. LMC control room numbers are 2613557 and 2622619.

Meanwhile, the weatherman said if the conditions remained as they are then the monsoon would touch eastern part of Uttar Pradesh in next 48 hours. It rained 4 mm on Sunday.
