TO PREVENT any untoward incident ahead of Holi, Delhi University officials met senior police officers on Monday, asking them to ensure the security of girl students.
"We have asked for additional deployment of police personnel outside women's hostels and certain areas in the university such as Kranti Chowk, Maurice Nagar and Mall Road. We have also asked for close vigil at south campus colleges," DU joint proctor Gurmeet Singh said.
"We have also requested for the deployment of policemen in plainclothes on U-specials and other public transport vehicles passing through the campus," said Singh. DTC crews have been instructed to steer the buses to the nearest police station in case of any incident of hooliganism.
The university has also prohibited the playing of Holi during working hours in educational institutions. It has also requested college principals, departmental heads and hostel provosts to prevent entry of outsiders.
