Home run

My mom’s a superstar; younger than me at heart and extremely proud of my little achievements, and me.

Home sweet home. The shoot is over and I'm finally back home! By which I mean my hometown. By which I mean… Ha! Like I'm gonna tell u! In the home-visits department, I'm usually pretty harsh on myself and don't make a trip back home till I feel I deserve a break. Being away from Bombay makes one feel like they're missing out on so much work, working out and auditions!

Post completion of my first film, I finally decided to break my work and workout cycle for a bit. I'm back home, chillin’ like a villain and doing what I've been dying to do - absolutely nothing! I usually reward myself with a day of rest after a shoot, but having completed a movie and all, I deserve more.

So I have rewarded my achy-breaky body with a week of pure unadulterated sloth! No phone calls, no auditions, no workouts, no beating traffic, no big city bustle. Just some quality time with mom and some much needed quality sleep.

Mom sweet mom
My mom’s a superstar; younger than me at heart and extremely proud of my little achievements, and me.One home ritual is the compulsory screening of all the recent stuff I’ve shot, for each and every visitor that drops in. I usually guide my mom over the phone on how to get the video to play but sitting in on one of these screenings is an embarrassment of another degree!

Wherever we went and whomever we met, mom being mom, didn’t stop mentioning I’ve done a film and describing my condom ad till they remembered it, followed by the breaking news “Yes! That’s her!” .... pfft!

Mission Impossible
After many failed attempts at teaching my mother how to surf the net, I gave it a shot again this trip.“Click on safari at the bottom left of the screen” “No no.. Not right click! NORMAL CLICK!” The tutorial was tiresome. While patiently repeating the steps, I just realised how life comes full circle, and how we need to be patient with our parents like they were with us when we were little children.

While idling away time back home, I couldn’t help but wonder if I have achieved as much as I should have. I guess one can never be successful enough… or thin enough! No matter how successful (or not) I am, I realised that my mom would always brim with pride and joy over every little ad I have done. I hope that I achieve something big with better recall value so that she doesn’t have to go around recounting my claims to fame.

In the end, it was a good trip. I changed my mom’s Blackberry settings, gave her a Blackberry tutorial, burnt new music for the car and strategically placed my music video and condom ad on the desktop! I’m refreshed and pretty excited about my recent achievements – the biggest being teaching my mom how to play a YouTube video!
