House of Indian saint composer to be converted to memorial

The dilapidated house of Saint Composer Thyagaraja at Tiruvaiyaru near here would be converted into a memorial at a cost of Rs 20 lakh, according to an official of the Sri Thyagabrahma Mahotsava Sabha.
The memorial would have a meditation hall, a library where books on Thyagaraja,video and audio cassettes and works of Shayama Sastrigal and Muthuswamy Dikshithar would be kept, G Rangaswamy Moopanar, the Sabha President said here yesterday.
A bronze statue of Thyagaraja would also be installed in the memorial, designed in the form of a Tambura (A musical Instrument).
According to legend, Saint Thiagaraja had a darshan of Lord Rama after he chanted Ramanamam (name of Lord Rama) one crore times in his house.
The 'Thiagaraja Aradhana' will be celebrated from January 16 to 21. Pancharathna Kritis would be rendered on January 19.
