The cheerleaders: Teenagers of the colony who watched with amusement as middle-aged homemakers tucked in their sari pallus and took guard to face tennis ball deliveries thrown by Mandira Bedi, sans noodles straps. “Over 40 per cent of those who watched the Cricket World Cup 2003 were women. The idea is to encourage girls to play cricket,” announced Bedi. And the girls, well, they were simply bowled over!
