“High level discussions in Huda were held. Huda has agreed to pay the outstanding amount within 10 to 15 days,” said a senior Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) official on Friday.

Since water supply is a lifeline service, DHBVN did not disconnect the power connection despite sending repeated reminders of the outstanding bill to Huda, which amounts to Rs 3.86 crore.

“There was some objection from Huda about the bill. We have already addressed the matter regarding correction in the bill. Now it is for them to pay up on time,” said Subhash Deswal, superintending engineer, DHBVN.

Outstanding dues with other government departments were cleared with DHBVN after negotiations. But Huda was the only department that has taken an ‘unprecedented’ long time.

Earlier, Deswal confirmed to HT that all dues have been recovered from various other government departments such as the Haryana Police, Mini Secretariat and courts through negotiations and persuasions but Huda had not paid the bill for very a long time.

A senior Huda official, however, said: “These things happen in the normal course.” He also denied a newspaper report that the department has been threatened of power cut by the DHBVN.
