If you have not paid your water or sewer bills in Huda sectors since 2007, it's time to stop using facilities without clearing pending dues. The Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) is busy preparing a list of defaulters, approximately 3,000 in number, to recover more than Rs 6-7 crore in bills.

Officials at Huda's three billing zones will submit a detailed report on defaulters to administrator Praveen Kumar by Monday. “This is a big amount. We are not going to let even a single defaulter use service without paying for them,” Kumar said, adding that the concerned officials never made an attempt to recover the dues. The administrator has appointed a nodal authority to form a team of officials who will get in touch with defaulters.

"In the past two months, we have collected approximately Rs 65-70 lakh from defaulters in Sector 37 part 1 and 2, Sector 15 part 1 and 2 and Sector 10 A. Monday onwards, when we will have a complete list, the collection process will be beefed up," said the officer in charge.

In January, HUDA had given defaulters a chance to pay pending bills. According to estimates, a HUDA official told HT, a five-year pending bill of a defaulter would be at least Rs 1 lakh. The water bill is calculated at R4 per kilo liter and R8 per wc (water closet).
