The devotees also got special prasad, coins and paddy after worship. Devotees may have darshan of the golden idol at the temple for the next four days till Annakut on the day after Diwali (October 22).

The golden idol is installed every year only on Dhanteras. Besides Thursday, the doors of the temple will be opened to the devotees in the wee hours daily till October 22.

Sweets and grains will be displayed on the temple premises till the Annakut festival.

Since the temple is situated in the zone of the Gyanwapi-Kashi Vishwanath temple complex, elaborate security arrangements have been made for smooth passage of devotees.

Besides, devotees worshipped a golden idol of Goddess Mahalaxmi at Sheetla temple at Dashashwamedh ghat on Thursday evening.

An attractive tableau of the goddess was set up at the temple in the Laxmikund area.

Meanwhile, people ventured out to the markets to purchase vessels, idols of Laxmi and Ganesha, jewellery, home appliances, silver coins and clothes to mark Dhanteras. Thousands of makeshift shops of vessels, especially stainless steel items, have been set up in different localities.
