The call for the agitation was given by the Central Joint Action Committee, New Delhi. They were agitating for their demands, including fresh recruitment to fill about 9,000 vacancies, promotion, pay revision and abolition of outsourcing.

According to a press release issued by Sanjay Kumar, branch secretary of the Income Tax Employees’ Federation (Class D), the officers and employees have decided not to work after office hours on July 27 and 28. Besides, they will resort to total boycott of work on July 31. He said the staff had also decided not to attend to any official work on holidays of July 29 and 30 (Saturday and Sunday).
The agitation was led by Sanjay Gupta, Girish Chandra, Pramod Katiyar, Madan Kumar, Bajrang Bali Giri, NL Pandey, SL Anuragi, Alok Kumar Misra, Lal Bahadur Yadav, Niranjan Lal and Gama.
