I have completed my Class XII (Commerce) and want to pursue a career in Public Relations. Please guide me.

Public Relations (PR) and corporate communications is a growing field, which requires professionals with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Training is mostly available as one- to two-year postgraduate diploma programmes in Mass Communications, which cover Advertising and PR, and sometimes even Event Management.

Admission is open to graduates in any subject. Candidates are selected usually through an entrance test which is designed to examine their general awareness, reasoning ability and verbal skills.

Prominent institutions offering the programmes include the Indian Institute of Mass Communications (IIMC), YMCA, NIA and Wigan & Leigh in New Delhi. Some institutes also offer undergraduate diplomas in PR, but most PR agencies prefer to recruit post-graduates, or even MBAs.

So you can also look at an MBA or Communication Management programme. The latter is offered by the Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad (MICA), the School of Convergence, New Delhi and the Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai.
