The device left on railway tracks over a bridge near Majbat in the Dhekiajuli police station area was noticed by a person last evening, official sources said today.

The Army bomb disposal squad recovered the new five-litre capacity pressure cooker inside which a plastic bag containing IED-like parts was kept, the sources said.

The suspicious bomb was being examined to ascertain if it was an explosive, the sources said adding the NDFB's anti-talk faction was suspected to have planted the bomb.

Train services on the Rangiya-Rangapara metre guage section of the Northeast Frontier Railway was halted following the recovery, the sources said. Massive search and combing operations have been launched by the security forces to trace the persons who planted the device.
