This site will be inaugurated by IIITA director MD Tiwari during the three-day national seminar on ‘Empowering Rural India through ICT’ to be held at IIITA extension campus at Amethi on April 15. Dr Tiwari said the website provided basic legal awareness. One could access different topics like set-up of the court, revenue and police telephone directory of Sultanpur district by merely clicking the mouse. Significantly, those who can not afford lawyers, would be given legal aid through the website, he said.

People could also lodge their complaints that will be forwarded to the concerned officials through proper channel and the answers would be posted on the website under the column ‘Responses’. The site was being launched in Hindi and five other languages.

Soon it would be available in all the languages in the country. It would be accessible to every citizen of the country whether in a remote village or in a town, said Dr Tiwari

He further said law did not discriminate on the basis of place of abode, religion, caste or creed. Unfortunately, awareness regarding our certain legal rights as enshrined in the Constitution was very low among rural people, he added.

He further said that the focus would be on legal rights of children like right to education which is provided free of cost up to primary level. Information on girls’ marriage age, share in parental property, dowry harassment, sex determination test etc would be made available to women.

Besides, legal rights of landless poor people and SC/STs and OBCs would be made available on the Net. Free legal aid would be provided to villagers at the district level, he added.
