Students were illegally occupying the rooms; majority of who had put their locks on the rooms and moved out for quite sometime.

The officials, who did not face much resistance, also evicted a handful of inmates who were actually living in the rooms illegally.

The varsity officials including AU proctor, Prof Jata Shankar and dean students welfare, Prof Jagdamba Singh backed by cops raided the hostel on Saturday
at around 2.45 pm which continued till 6.30 pm.

Superintendent of Priya Darshini hostel, Dr Shabnam Hamid was present during the raid.

On being contacted, Prof Jagdamba Singh confirmed the fact and further said, “We faced no resistance and the raid was concluded peacefully. More raids at other hostels too would follow in the days to come depending on the availability of police backup.”

It may be noted that after months of warning, Allahabad University officials finally started raiding the hostels after getting police back up on Friday when they targeted the PC Bannerjee Boys’ Hostel and evicted 68 illegal inmates and managed to take possession of 35 rooms without any trouble.
