“The babies who died in the last 72 hours were suffering from severe asphyxia, breathlessness, low birth weight, septicaemia. Many of them were brought in the last minute when there was very little we could do,” said the medical super and vice-principal of MMCH, MS Rashid.
Sources told HT that all the babies were aged between a few years and two years. Another 12 babies are in a critical condition.
The parents have alleged negligence on the part of hospital authorities.
This is not the first time infants have died at the MMCH. According to sources, the hospital is usually overcrowded and understaffed.
